I’ve been having trouble settling in at my new school- there’s lots of crap here in the social circles that I’m not used to, like if you’re not in favor of the queen bee of the class you’re dead and other trash.
The good thing is I got 92 in bio, 96 in geography and 85 in hindi in my first exams here!!

You know my school here in Bangalore is a queer mixture of the old world and the new- they use plasma tvs in the class to explain the lessons by connecting it to a website called smart class and accessing info from there, yet if I talk to a boy they flinch and stare at me as if I’m mad! So I already am on three websites through the school- a mental maths website called mindspark, an English language website called wordsworth and smart class.
You know we just made a powerpoint presentation on the topic ‘friendship in diversity- India and switzerland’ and sent them to the swiss embassy for a competition arranged by them on the sixtieth anniversary of the India-switzerland friendship treaty. That really was fun- I enjoyed every minute of it! Wanna see it? I’ll send it to you then, but if you don’t of course then I won’t. we communicate in English here- and in hindi in the hindi classes. Our hindi teacher’s absolutely awesome, and our history and geography teacher is a Bengali, aparna sinha, fat as a barrel and enormously jolly and witty. We spend half her class laughing ourselves silly! I love my bio and pt teachers as well- sanchita ma’am for bio- she’s so soft and her explanations are so lucid and her pronunciation’s a joy to the ears. I like my chem. Miss a lot too though I’m somewhat afraid of her. Have you read agatha christie’s an appointment with death? If you have, then let me tell you that for some reason which I can’t quite explain, she looks exactly like a real life Mrs Boynton to me- both in appearance and in manner! Soft yet dangerous- that’s Mrs Boynton, and that’s my chem. Teacher too. If you haven’t then let me tell you that she looks like a hippo and is just as dangerous as a wild tusker when angry yet as gentle as a cow when normal. Did I tell you about our librarian? I hate her and she’s an absolute idiot. She just keeps on screaming all the time and she screams so mch that she makes us laugh! I really like this teacher over here called Mrs Vasudev- she’s absolutely awesome! Unfortunately she doesn’t teach us anything. She’s an English teacher otherwise.
In my old school we had PA subjects- performing arts. Mine was drama. I loved it, but we don’t have that here. I really like my hindi teacher here too. Next year we choose between home science and economics over here- but I don’t think I’ll be around to do any choosing- I really think I’ll leave next year. Mumbai was much, much better in many aspects- including school life.

I hope I can continue my tae kwon do here, but so far no luck. I was getting quite good really at drawing and painting too, but again, here I’ve found no luck as of yet.
You know my dad’s just come back from Finland and going to Germany in September yay! I know I’m bragging but I just can’t stop being happy at his success you know.

I was just wondering which is the most amazing friendship you’ve ever made? Coz I just made a friend whom I’d never even seen in my life. You know I was on the flight back to b’lore from Calcutta, and in the airport, this girl about my age was sitting on my mom’s other side. She was playing a harry potter game, and she’d caught my eye right from the beginning coz I just somehow felt this might be someone I’d really like to be a friend of, but of course I was too chicken to go and talk to her. Then my mom pushed me to do so, so I just walked up to her all casual and said hello, And believe it or not, within three minutes we were talking as if we were lifelong best pals! And now she’s my friend! Crazy huh?
Well you know that gal who chatted with Mr. 99.25%? you might actually know her- coz she came in the newspapers recently!! Her name’s Shristi Bose and she was one of the city representers at the HDFC spell bee.

NEW YORK - Idaho resident Kathy Evans brought humiliation to her friends and family Tuesday when she set a new standard for stupidity with her appearance on the popular TV show, 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.'

It seems that Evans, a 32-year-old wife and mother of two, got stuck on the first question.
After being introduced to the show's host Meredith Vieira, Evans assured her that she was ready to play, whereupon she was posed with an extremely easy $100 question. The question was: 'Which of the following is the largest?'

A) A Peanut
B) An Elephant
C) The Moon
D) Hey, who you calling large?

Immediately Mrs. Evans was struck with an all consuming panic as she realized that this was a question to which she did not readily know the answer.
'Hmm, oh boy, that's a toughie,' said Evans, as Vieira did her level best to hide her disbelief and disgust. 'I mean, I'm sure I’ve heard of some of these things before, but I have no idea how large they would be.'
Evans made the decision to use the first of her three lifelines, the 50/50. Answers A and D were removed, leaving her to decide which was bigger, an elephant or the moon. However, faced with an incredibly easy question, Evans still remained unsure.
'Oh! It removed the two I was leaning towards!' exclaimed Evans.. 'Darn. I think I better phone a friend.'
Using the second of her two lifelines on the first question, Mrs. Evans asked to be connected with her friend Betsy, who is an office assistant.
'Hi Betsy! How are you? This is Kathy! I'm on TV!' said Evans, wasting the first seven seconds of her call. 'Ok, I got an important question. Which of the following is the largest? B, an elephant, or C, the moon. 15 seconds Hun.'
Betsy quickly replied that the answer was C, the moon. Evans proceeded to argue with her friend for the remaining ten seconds.
'Come on Betsy, are you sure?' said Evans. 'How sure are you? Duh, that can't be it.'
To everyone's astonishment, the moronic Evans declined to take her friend's advice and pick 'The Moon.'
'I just don't know if I can trust Betsy. She's not all that bright. So I think I'd like to ask the audience,' said Evans.
Asked to vote on the correct answer, the audience returned 98% in favor of answer C, 'The Moon.' Having used up all her lifelines, Evans then made the dumbest choice of her life.
'Wow, seems like everybody is against what I'm thinking,' said the too-stupid-to-live Evans. 'But you know, sometimes you just got to go with your gut. So, let's see. For which is larger, an elephant or the moon, I'm going to have to go with B, an elephant. Final answer.'
Evans sat before the dumbfounded audience, the only one waiting with bated breath, and was told that she was wrong, and that the answer was in fact, C, 'The Moon.'

I watch mainly Disney channel- and suite life, life on deck, Hannah Montana, raven, lizzie mcguire, and some other stuff. Did you see those horrendous stuff they’ve started for oye summer summer oye? God they’re unbearable- I think so at least. Do you like them? I don’t mean sonny with a chance or aaron stone.
I didn’t think sonny with a chance was so funny- It didn’t really make me laugh. Yeah I heard of the jonas brothers show- it got rave reviews everywhere- everyone on twitter was gushing about how great it was! I’ll try to send you a few photos.
I also watch natgeo, animal planet, discovery, English movie channels, VH1, and AXN. I hate mtv with a vengeance, especially that utterly stupid program called splitsvilla. I really, really hope you don’t like it!

Well I’m soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sorry about the late reply- you see I’ve been in b’lore all this time- well of course you know that!- and here the only access to net is thru my dad’s wireless which he takes to his office with him, and so I have limited access to it. that’s why I couldn’t reply for so long. It was soooooooooooooo very sweet of you to worry that I’d stopped writing- usually when that happens you know your friend likes you!!!
You know we were in kolkata this past week so I didn’t have access to net at all from there- anyway my mom’s friends met up with her and dolly mashi, one of her closest pals who was in gokhale with her was there too. When she heard about potla still being there this year her immediate reaction was- how pathetic!
Umm well you make me blush about the good student thing!!! ;)!! You know the year I left gokhale I won the prize for highest scores in English throughout the year- the latika gupta memorial award. But I totally suck at maths. Hey did you see that guy called subhojit ghosh who scored like a ridiculous 99.25% in ISC this year! God that’s crazy. I went to his orkut profile thru my friends’- the newspapers described him as ‘shy’- if you visit his profile you’ll think the reporters had gone mad. There’s this sentence there- ‘I’m a boy who likes to piss in the morning and kiss in the evening, the first one being allowed in public in India and the other one in the US’- can you ever imagine a ‘shy’ boy ever writing this anywhere?! But my friend who chatted (online) with him for a while about three days ago, said that during that conversation she thought the reporters had it right- she felt that he was a bit shy. Didn’t you think he was cute? I did- actually that’s the first thing I noticed about him, before I even saw the headline, and I was so surprised when my friend said exactly the same thing too!!!
You know my birthday is coming up ahead on the 30th of june- I share it with loads of celebs, like Michael phelps, mike Tyson, Cheryl cole, sanath jayasuriya, superman, and my former school’s principal!!! Forgive me if I’ve told you this before- I’m very proud of this!! When’s your b’day (sooooooooo sorry- I’ve forgotten!!)?
You know, right after I read your mail I went to Spencer’s where at the mag stand I spotted the nokia N97 in a gadget’s mag- oh my goodness it’s sooooooooooo beautiful!! I’m quite impressed that you actually know the names of phone models- I don’t have a clue about anything related to that!
Well she was my only aunt you know, and she passed away of chicken pox, of all things. I’ll miss her badly, and ‘much as I would’ve wanted to shut myself up in my pain and not allow life to go on’ (I’m quoting from chicken soup for the preteen soul 2) ‘that is not like me’. ‘what’s the point of that? You just have to get over it and go on.’ I mean, if I moped around that wouldn’t help anyone, and mamma (my aunt) especially wouldn’t want that. She was a great person- my friend, philosopher and guide. I’ll never get another fashion specialist as great as she was- she had a great fashion and styling sense, not to mention her vast knowledge of English literature. She and my mom were close, and my mom’s devastated. Both of us, me and my mom, can’t really believe that she’s gone. We keep thinking that this is all a lie, a dream, maybe, or a nightmare, and we’ll wake up. But that’s not the case, and it crushes me to realize that I’ll never wake up from this nightmare. My tears have dried up, you know, I cried so much. But I’ve learnt to take whatever comes in life and make the best of it- mainly from that book I mentioned above and others in the series- and its all part of the roller coaster ride. I can’t change anything anyway, so what’s the point of moaning? It’s best to make the best of it- you just have to get over it and go on.

I love evs. I won the nascent symbiont award this year at our school it’s given for scoring the highest in eves through out the year. I love computer too. Well have you lost your best friend? God then I’m really sorry- trust me I know how that feels. U know swastika- she’s a friend of yours on hi5- she used to be my best friend and I have attempted to contac herr many times irecently trying to avoid the faux pas I had committed before but I guess she doesn’t really care now she’s not replying and I’m kinda depressed. Oh nothings new in my life, excep for the fact I just shifted from Mumbai to blore, changed schools, left the whole new life I’d created over four years, left all my friends and teachers, moved into a strange new flat, and am struggling to fall back into the pattern of things. Well I’m 5’4 too! But even I wanna grow tall. I still have about 2.5 years left. My mom’s 5’5, but more than that I want Michelle’s height she’s 5’8.5! Mother’s day is on May eighth and I will be in Bangalore then. I’m now in Mumbai- I live here, in case you somehow missed that part- one of my e-friends did. So my dad changed jobs and he’s in b’lore now and we’re torn b/w moving there and staying put. I personally don’t want to at all- I’ve already changed like three schools and I’ve got such good friends here and such a great band of teachers- who on earth wants to leave all this to go to an alien place and be the freak again? Definitely not me. But the admission test will be a good op to judge myself. Before my mom’s marriage she had this really cute spitz and lhasa apso cross breed called tootsie- he was the cutest little thing but he passed away like eight years ago. My mom was heartbroken.
Have you seen that times of India article where they mentioned the slogan as ‘korbo lorbo harbo’? !! My mom nearly blew her top when she saw it.
Well nothing’s really new in school. My friend Zahra’s gone to UAE to be with her dad there, and she sent me these awesome pics of the Abu Dhabi skyline. Plus I’m beginning to really grasp maths well and everything in the academics line is going great guns for me at least. This is a nice change- for once I’m not in a mad rush over unfinished homework! Well except for that stupid geography test tomorrow for which I still have a little left to study. Everyone in our class, especially the boys, are a little bit too interested in linking people romantically and that gets on everybody’s nerves, not to mention our pt sir whom I call goru- short for gorilla! I think he looks remarkably like our primate cousins- flat slanting forehead, bushy eyebrows underneath which the tiny glittering eyes are set deep inside, the chin jutting out of the rest of the face. But he’s bearable. Worse is our drawing “sir”- god I’ve never seen such pathetic specimen of humanity (yeah, right!) in my entire life- and we girls had to complain to our principal about his behaviour- that should tell you how he is. Well I was really the first one who noticed- and from the moment I first set my eyes on him I’ve hated his guts.
Which teacher do you hate the most at school? Oh yeah that reminds me- is the famous potla still there? My mom was in gokhale too you know- and she hated her like anything and was asking me whether you knew her or not.

I think you should go ahead and give it a try- about your cousin, I mean. Have you read Anne frank? Then you’ll know- “you can still be lonely when you’re loved by many, coz you’re not anybody’s one and only.” Maybe she feels that her friends are superficial, or maybe she can’t share everything with them and would feel more comfortable with you. It may sound a bit melodramatic but maybe she has some problem she’d like to share with you. From the sound of it you are more mature than she is, so give it a try. I know you know her better than I do, but maybe you guys will discover something common and develop a close bond. If you don’t then perhaps you could tell her that you just don’t connect with her this way, cause being open and straightforward really does help in awkward situations, I’ve discovered from personal experience.

oh I absolutely love little women, and most mark twain books, and little princess, and great expectations, jane eyre, and I’ve read several guy de Maupassant translations. I was in class three in 2004. have you read malgudi days? God, can’t imagine why people say they’re nice- I personally have never read a set of stories soooo amazingly gloomy and pessimistic, ending so abruptly without any warning or conclusion. Plus I couldn’t make head or tale of this one called such perfection, where this guy called soma makes a very nice sculpture of a shiva, which gets rejected coz ‘such perfection is not for human eyes’ (!) and then he defies everyone and brings it out anyway, and theres a “proloy” for about three days when everyone blames the poor guy for it all, then an entire tree falls on his house, right on top of the idol but only a single toe ends up breaking, and everyone says god himself made the idol bad enuf for human eyes!!! Can you understand anything?
Are you very sentimental? I most definitely am- dad doesn’t take me to cinemas anymore because I start crying at every tragic scene. Do u like bollywood- I actually don’t, I sort of hate it.
Do you get pocket money? My mom gives me about 60 rupees per week- not much, but she hates giving pocket money and only gives this much so I learn to value money.
I’m quite fat- actually a few hours ago I was morbidly depressed because I’m so frustrated that inspite of trying with all my heart I’m simply not growing thin. I was crying floods of tears and my mom almost cried too- she does every time I do. A little later I grew more hopeful. I really want to thin down.

Halloo reshmi!!
One of my friends just showed me new moon yesterday- thought it was really cool. It’s the sequel to twilight isn’t it? Do you think that in princess diaries there’s too much negativity with respect to some stuff? Like when you find out you’re a princess, you’re supposed to be happy. It’s sort of weird that she thinks it’s irritating. My parents absolutely love storybooks and it’s thanks to them that I like reading so much. They always encourage me to read good books. Only they’d like it if I read classics more than teenage fiction. I do like classics but I’ve read most of the ones suitable for my age, plus there are a lot of exciting opportunities in teenage fiction these days, I feel. You could try ‘all American girl’ and ‘the mediator’ series by Meg Cabot. The former is about a normal girl who saves the life of the president of the US and becomes an instant celebrity! The latter is about a girl who can converse with ghosts and helps them pass onto afterlife. You can also try the Alex rider series by Anthony horowitz- they’re about a teenage super spy forced to work for the British MI6 after his uncle’s death. I tell you, the stunts in the book are unbelievable- better a hundred times than James bond can dream of! There’s everything from base jumping to kite surfing to snowboarding to flying into outer space in a rocket!
I was in gokhale until class three- I got all the best teachers like Mrs. Mitro and sengupta and roychoudhari and dutt and miss mitra- do you like them too? I guess a lot of them have retired. I miss them a lot, actually. I think they were the best teachers in the entire universe.

I study in a co-ed school, and let me tell you, it’s not easy adjusting to this zoo after going to gokhale. The boys are unbelievable- you won’t believe how rude and ill mannered and general jerks they can be. At least the ones in my school are. That’s cool about your percentage- I think you did awesome- just not perfect, and no one said that everyone has to be perfect.
My mom doesn’t like me going online too much- mainly for the phone bills!!! Actually it wasn’t that hard a life- I liked all of them, see. I only enroll in what I like and god help anyone who tries to get me into something I don’t! I believe in my opinions really firmly.
I surf anything and everything if it happens to catch my fancy. Especially fansites of my favourite stars, and this really great website called timesforkids.com- check it out, and try the games- they’re beyond cool!
The new JB album is called- lines, vines and trying times- I really want to listen to it- but subzero hope when my mom won’t even let me buy a little bit longer! You know my pal Tania and I spotted it in crossword and tried to persuade my mom for about two hours to part with 299 rupees, but of course she wouldn’t.
Actually I eat anything put in front of me (eatables, of course- not, for example, benches and desks!) and I think that’s one of my hobbies. My parents say that the thing that they like the best about me is that I’m not a picky eater!

By spyware do u mean that stupid thing called antivirus 2009? I very nearly downloaded it- got hoodwinked by whatever was written on the site! Thank goodness my antivirus program detected it. I haven’t watched the film, but I’ve seen trailers and Robert Pattinson looks really cute!

I practice a martial art too- tae kwon do- it’s a Korean martial art that is similar to karate and I love everything to do with martial arts except for those exaggerated films. I go for drawing classes and I’m not that bad at it, and I used to go for elocution and speech classes too. Before that I used to go for recitation and bharatnatyam classes- I love bharatnatyam and I miss it so much now that I’m not doing it. actually even I didn’t like sports so much- at gokhale we hardly ever played dodgeball, forget about volleyball or basketball!! The only reason I’m so bad at catching a ball is because I never learnt how to at gokhale- my pals at my current school find that shocking. I was quite an introvert too- but then my friends began encouraging me to take part in sports, and gradually I came to realize that there really are a lot of benefits and a lot of fun in playing them, and now I play them a bit more frequently. Thank goodness people here don’t do all those politics which really were rampant before, but the proper spirit is there, and thankfully they don’t tease you here if you’re bad at it. how’r things like at yours???

Hope uor exams went good!!! Well my results are out and I got 87%- not so bad but I really wanna do better. my comp is also xibiting paranoid behaviour aftr having Trojans in it4 bout a year.
My friends are ALL aflutter about twilight- especially this girl I know called Michelle- she loved it and keeps saying how awesome it is. I haven’t actually read it though. It’s about a girl who falls in love with a boy who’s actually a vampire, right? Robert pattinson’s apparently done a superb job in the film.
I know how awful it feels when people call you ‘hiya girlish form of boy” and other totally stupid names- coz even I get boycuts, my mom prefers them. Actually I kind of like it, but my pals don’t- and boy, do they let me hear about it! Don’t worry- I’m sure you look great. Sometimes, you just gotta take stuff light, though I know that sounds much easier than it actually is to put into practice. Plus, it’ll grow back!!
U know, even my maths teacher, who also taught us physics, was AWESOME, but guess what- she leaves school next month! Our whole school is mourning. She just had this magical way of making every single thing easy- but now I, a total dunce at maths, will suffer intensely without her, oh well, I guess changes are a part of life.

you know- it feels so nice to get back and read your messages. to feel that i have someone who likes me and someone i really like back, to talk(well, sort of!) to that person and read about her liking me just gives me such a warmth in my heart and a happy feeling. don't think i'm sentimental, but i like to express my feelings and this is exacly what i feel everytime i read your mails! i'm a bit mad too!
i'm dead scared of horror movies- actually i avoid watching them now coz i'm terrified of stepping out of my bed at night for 3 months after watching them!

well i like the jobros, shakira- especially b'ful liar and hips don't lie, i love temperature- lyrics pretty scorching, but i just love the steady beat- makes me wanna get up and start swinging around.otherwise i like hilary duff and a few others. you know that part right at the end of burnin' up- when nick says- 'burnin' up, burnin' up, you baby..' and catches hold of the mike and looks in the distance- i simply LOVE THAT PART! makes him look sooooo.. well, seductive and sexy! what about you?i LOOOOOOOOVE nick jonas- he is SOOOOO cute, + he works harder than ALL of them, coz he plays the guitar AND the drum AND sings AND dances AND screams AND pumps up the audience AND jumps up and down- all at the same time too!
do you like harry potter? i've read 'size12 is not fat' by meg cabot- it's about a former popstar calld heather wells whose career and love life went down the drain after she wanted to sing her own lyrics. so she took a job in a NY college dorm- & ended up busting her boss for killing 2 people- & almost 3 others. it's amazing!
